Under the Honorary President Republican Model, the people elect an Honorary President to succeed (or replace) the King in his Australian role. This would mean the people become sovereign and our Head of State will be Australian. The King today has only a ceremonial function. In Australia, his sole duty is to appoint the Governor-General and state Governors. When doing this he always follows the recommendations of the Prime Minister and state Premiers. It will be likewise with the Honorary President. The constitution will limit his or her powers to ceremonial activities and the appointment of the Governor-General and state Governors under the same rule. |
